Sunday of the Word of God

“Devoting a specific Sunday of the liturgical year to the word of God can enable the Church to experience anew how the risen Lord opens up for us the treasury of his word and enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches before the world.” Pope Francis - ‘Aperuit illis’

Our focus at the beginning of this new year is on the upcoming Sunday of the Word of God on 24th January.

We hope you will find these ideas and resources helpful as you prepare to celebrate this day, which was instituted by Pope Francis on 30th September 2019.

Check our our latest Scripture course ‘Echoes of God: Journeying with the word of God’. David McLoughlin invites you to join him on a journey through the whole Bible in this wonderful 7 week course.

Blessing of Bibles

We invite all the Faithful to bring their Bibles to Mass to be blessed during the Sunday of the Word of God as decreed by Pope Francis. You can download an Order of Blessing here.

On the Sunday of the Word of God parishes are invited to celebrate their Readers with a simple Order of Commissioning and/or Rite of Renewal which you can download here.
