Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Advent is a time of preparation. We are preparing for the arrival of the baby Jesus on Christmas morning – which the prophets had foretold and now becomes reality. Our quotation from the Letter to the Hebrews highlights how God speaks throughout history but also in the present tense, and this is at the heart of our Year of the Word initiative.
From the beginning of time, God speaks to his people:

God speaks through prophets
God speaks through witnesses
God speaks into our lives.
