A poem based on Matthew 7:7 and Luke 11:9 to help with prayer and reflection by Canon Mark Skelton.

Ask/Seek/Knock.
Ask, but do not crawl with fawning voice,
hold out your hands to Him with confidence.
And do not cower within the shadowed dark
but stand within His light, that shine of hope.
Seek, but not in places unattainable;
He does not hide, conceal His gift of grace.
In clearer sight they may still yet be found,
if through His eyes we gaze upon His world.
Knock, but hear the echoed sound resound
and wait for footsteps marked across the floor.
And from inside the expectation builds
and He, rejoicing, opens wide the door.
A tax collector dared not even raise his head,
yet what he asked was granted just the same.
And one who sought for pearls and riches all his life
found gifts that were beyond imagining.
And failing son tramps weary down familiar paths
but father runs with sandal, robe and ring.
